If the wind caused the back door to slam-shut with a loud bang…..and if ’Flossie‘ was in the store, she would yell out, ”I didn’t do it!” If someone dropped something and it made a loud noise-if ‘Flossie’ was in the store, she would yell out, “I didn’t do it!” On the rare occasion that something made of glass should ever drop and break-if ‘Flossie’ was in the store, you would have heard her yell, “I didn’t do it!”
‘Flossie’ was another one of my childhood memories from working in my father’s general store. I never quite understood the otherwise “quiet Flossie” yelling-out like that….. perhaps she was frightened or scared by the loud noises?….. I never knew…..
But sometimes today, I wish at times, I could see just a little bit of ‘Flossie’ in some people as they chase whatever it is they’re chasing…… We all see it at times….. sometimes we easily view it on TV shows-certainly sporting events….. and it’s definitely widespread in the business world….. it creeps into our educational systems and just about every area of our lives….. What is it that creeps in?
When success and achievement comes to a person, sadly we see many who begin to think…..”I did it.“….. Now, before you think I’m “pointing fingers” at anyone, let me just say that this is something that I’ve ALWAYS had to remember to keep “in check”, because God allowed me to start a business from nothing 36 years ago, and it’s still going and growing today. A couple of verses that have always helped me over the years—and I’m sure they’ve helped many others are:
Deuteronomy 8: 17-18A: “You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” “But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth,…..”
Did I have to work 80 and 90 hours a week those first few years when I started the company? Absolutely, and I had to do it for several years in order to succeed……BUT it was God who gave me the ability!
Of course, we all have to do the best we can with the skills, gifts and talents that God has given us. How He uses them-and to what degree, is His choice, for each of our lives. When we constantly seek His will for everything in our lives, He will answer and provide…..in His time…..
On March 2, 2018 God performed another miracle in my life when I was joined in marriage to my beautiful wife Ruth! We both know for sure this is God’s plan for our lives, in fact, we both felt as if there was no doubt that God brought us together—since neither one of us was looking! So, we’ll give God all the credit and Glory for bringing us together!
And along with ‘Flossie’ we can say together, “We Didn’t Do It!”
God Did!
Till Next Time…..
