It’s fun sometimes to see the videos of three year olds that raided mom’s make-up and have it “painted” all over their face! When asked if they got into mom’s make-up, many times they say “noooooo”! So often they just go for the “big lie”, even though they are covered with the evidence! I guess they haven’t learned “creative lying” yet-(but it’s still a lie, and it’s still wrong.)
It doesn’t take long until a child, when confronted as to whether or not they did something wrong will start their response with “Yeah, But”….. and different versions of that continue throughout life.
I saw a news program just a few weeks ago about a man who was charged with stealing thousands of dollars from the business where he worked. When the police on the show questioned him about the stolen money, he said “Yeah, But I had planned to pay it all back before I got caught”!
There are legitimate reasons why sometimes “Yeah, But” might get used, that involve things such as: time, sickness, weather, travel problems and other things that are out of our control. In most cases though, “Yeah, But”….. followed by an explanation, is usually a version of someone trying to explain away or cover-up something they did wrong (or don’t want to do…..)
Where did this all begin? The first man…..
Genesis 3:11b. (God said) “Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” 12. The man said, “The woman you put here with me-she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” In modern English he said to God: “Yeah, But….. it was that woman you put here with me, she gave me some fruit and I ate it!”
Today, if we have trusted and believed in Jesus as our Savior from sin, God will speak to us and show us things from His Word-The Bible.
Matthew 5:37 “All you need to say is simply ‘yes’ or ‘no’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”
Let’s guard our thoughts and pray that we will always be willing to give a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ response, whether asked a question by man or feeling led by the Holy Spirit. That way we will never be labeled a “Yeah, But Christian” by anyone!
Till Next Time…..
